Dorothy House doubles donations with their second Christmas tree collection

What a bumper Christmas tree collection for Dorothy house in 2018! With the help of local volunteers they collected over 1,400 trees from the 6th January raising more than £12,800.

This year the scheme expanded to offer Christmas tree collections in three new postcodes - BA2 in Bath, SN12 in Melksham and BA12 in Warminster. They also collected from Frome, Westbury, Bradford on Avon, Trowbridge, Corsham. Trees were collected from businesses, schools and churches as well as local homes.

The trees were chipped and shredded to make valuable reusable materials for the community and 

The Fundraising department at Dorothy House Hospice Care were looking forward to the event which helps local people to recycle their used Christmas trees while also raising vital funds for the hospice and they were extremely grateful to all the volunteers and supporters who generously donate their time. Many local community groups and businesses supported the collection including SW Machinery Hire from Lacock which specialises in the hire of agricultural and plant machinery, Bradford on Avon Rotary Club, Sureset in Warminster, and Pearns Tree Services and Inspired Joinery both from Frome. Students at Lackham Agriculture College in Melksham also helped with the tree chipping 

Donations will help fund the specialist palliative and end of life care services provided by the Hospice. After costs 90% of the monies raised, £12,337.85 will go to Dorothy House with 10% - £1,351.28 going to local charities, each receiving an equal share of the proceeds. These are Frome Rugby Football Club, Rotary Club of Melksham and Winsley Church of England Primary School.
